    The three places/city that you are able to rent or buy trekking equipment; the places are Kathmandu (Thamel, Tridevi Marga and major supermarket), Pokhara (Lakeside and Damside) and Namche Bazaar. Those person who is planing trek at Northern side Nepal (Langtang), best place to rent/buy will be Kathmandu. Person who is doing Annapurna region trek (except Annapurna Circuir; this need to rent in kathmandu because before trek you are not going to Pokhara). Trekking at Everest region best place to rent is Namche Bazaar (Khumbu). For other area trek must need to by or rent equipment in Kathmandu.

    Buying or renting things in Kathmandu is better, however for the local support better to buy or rent at their own place, this is friendly way.

    Things buy or rent you are able to get both quality; branded and local product. Cost of the things are depends on the quality of things you are buying or renting. Some of the rental ( second hand) things it coud cost something like below;

    Sleeping bag: USD 1 a day
    Crampoon: USD 3 a day
    Plastic boot: USD 3 a day
    Iceaxe: USD 1 a day
    Harnes: USD 1 a day

    Whether you bring your own stuff or buy/rent it in Nepal it is most common to bring your trekking equipment either from Kathmandu and/or Pokhara to the start of your trek., which you usually reach by bus or private vehicle.

    Many trekking agencies offer the possibility of renting equipment and you can also rent things yourself in one of the shops in Thamel/Jyatha, but it is relatively expensive compared to buying and you better check the prices of a trekking agency compared to renting the stuff yourself.

    Buying trekking/climbing equipment in Nepal is extremely cheap, but you have to be careful with the quality. F.e. you might be able to buy trekking boots for $30,- which can be very useful for one or two treks, but don’t expected them to last for many years. There are also shops selling second hand trekking gear.

    Depending on how much you can bring from/back home or on the rest of your journey you can decide which is smarter for you: buying, bringing or renting.

    Note: you can also rent/buy equipment in Namche Bazar (Everest region) but prices are much higher than in Kathmandu.
    Note2: outside Thamel there are some big shops like Bhat Batini where you can find trekking shoes, jackets, bags at fixed prices and often cheaper than your lowest bargain in Thamel.
