Restore a historic gompa in lower Mustang – Autumn 2014 October 6-17, October 20-31

A unique experience to spend time restoring a gompa on the historic salt trade routes in Mustang.
We fly to Pokhara and onto Jomsom.
An easy two hour walk along the river south to Marpha, our base for the 12 day trip, staying in a local guesthouse with ensuite bathrooms and hot water.

Chhairo gompa is 15 mins walk across the Kaligandaki river from the guesthouse.
Volunteers work with local people to restore the gompa under the supervision of a Kathmandu based architectural firm.
The gompa revival is being led by Ven Shashi Dhoj Tulachan, born in Tukuche village and from a line of religious artists, sculptors, frescoe and thangka painters.
Six young monks aged 11-12 are currently attending the local primary school and will soon be starting their monastic studies.

The trip includes all in country travel, accomodation, meals and soft drinks
