Flash Flood Alert: Budhi Gandaki River, Gorkha

A major flash flood has struck the Budhi Gandaki River in northern Gorkha, within the Manaslu region. According to reports published today, a landslide blocked the river, triggering downstream flooding that swept away houses and two suspension bridges and damaged a hydropower project.

The disaster has raised serious safety concerns for local communities and travellers in the affected areas. Authorities have urged people along the riverbanks to move to safer locations.

Important Notice for Trekkers and Travellers

Heavy overnight rainfall has triggered localized flooding, landslides, and damage to trail infrastructure in the Manaslu region. These conditions may make trekking routes unsafe and increase the risk of river crossings, trail blockages, and further landslides.

Safety Guidelines for Travellers:

Postpone Your Trek: Trekkers and expedition operators are strongly advised to delay departures to the Manaslu region until local authorities verify that routes are safe.

Check Official Updates: Contact registered trekking agencies, the concerned Rural Municipality, or relevant tourism authorities before travelling or making new arrangements.

Avoid Risky Routes: Swollen rivers, unstable slopes, and damaged trails can pose serious risks, even when weather conditions appear to improve.

Follow Local Instructions: Do not enter affected areas or attempt to cross flooded rivers and blocked trails. Follow safety instructions issued by local authorities and your trekking guide.

A Message to All Travellers: Weather and trail conditions in Nepal's mountainous regions can change rapidly. Please prioritize safety over your itinerary and resume your journey only when the relevant authorities confirm that routes are safe.
