Planning to go Ama yangri this weekend on motorbike, need some information.

Hi guys, i am planning to visit ama yangri this weekend with few friends.

I have few questions,
- What will be the weather in ama yangri? is it too cold in night? We are planning betwee dec 1st to dec 8th 2024.
- What will be the accomodation? does we get good room or we have to stay in Tent?
- What kind of clothes should i pack?
- How many hours/ KMs from kathmandu to reach the destination?
- How is the road condition, i heard some part of road is too difficult on bike?
- Which bike will be suitable? we are planning to go with either honda xr190, crfs or xpulse 200 offroad bikes, it is okay with those bikes?
- I heard we have to hike almost two hours? until where we can go by bike and from where hiking part will start?
- any recommdations of hotels around Ama yangri?
- Also please share the route, we want to start from thamel.
hope i will get a quick response soon

Just returned from Ama Yangri last week.
  • Weather will be cold during night and the morning time, so prepare well for the cold. Bring some extra layers to keep you warm.

  • There are both tented and room accommodations at Ama Yangri Base camp, book early as there are limited number of hotels at the base camp. If you opt to stay below Ama Yangri base camp, there are multiple options to stay in Tarkeyghyang or Sermathang. From there, it will take 3-4 hours to reach at the base camp and hike for about 2-3 hours (depending upon your hiking speed).

  • Down jackets and thermals would be suitable for the night as it's going to be a chilly night.

  • There are multiple ways to reach Ama Yangri. On average, it will be about 100 km from Kathmandu, but it may take 5-6 hours to reach base camp depending upon the route you choose and the stops you will make on the way.

  • Till Melamchi, road conditions is good, after you cross the Melamchi river, then the route is completely up hill off-road, this is where it will get a little difficult to ride your bike.

  • Honda XR 190, crfs, or xpulse 200 will all be suitable for this road. I've seen 350 Classic, Bajaj Avengers, and even scooters at the base camp. Honda XR 190, crfs or xpulse 200 will be perfect on this trail.

  • You can ride up to Ama Yangri Base Camp and you will have to hike for about 2+ hours (depending upon your walking speed) to reach at the top.

  • The route we took was;

    Kathmandu-Sankhu-Jaharsing Pauwa-Melamchi-Kakani-Sermathang-Tarkeghyang-Ama Yangri Base Camp-Ama Yangri-Tarkeghyang-Timbu-Melamchi-Zero-Dhulikhel-Suryabinayak-Kathmandu.

Make sure to fill up your bike tank at Melamchi.
Also, carry some water and snacks while you are hiking up Ama Yangri.

I hope this answers all of your questions. Enjoy your ride.

Cheers
