Hello parents,

Yesterday, I attended the Kumon Method workshop organized by Kumon Institute of Education Japan, at my daughter's school (in Kathmandu).
It was 30-mins keynote session.
At first, I was unsure whether to attend, but when I re-read the invitation, a few keywords caught my attention; they say,
- Strengthening Math Skills; and
- Self learning.
Before I move on, I want to highlight key takeaways from this session;
- The Kumon Method trains children to calculate quickly and accurately using structured templates.
My POV: It has an assessment toolkit in the backend and tracks activities: time to solve, how many times the answer is erased and re-tried. It is all digital, touchpad, and recorded.
- Children learn to think for themselves and progress confidently, independently (requiring low supervision).
My POV: Of course time saver for parents like me, who's compelled to be part of their daily homework.
- One of the short videos showed that a student was solving complex maths questions faster and more accurately. It was quite evident.
My POV: Over time, that clarity creates confidence
As a parent, that assurance matters.
